Essex racer Lochlan Bearman finished third in the East Anglian Trophy Meeting at Kimbolton on Sunday.

The 12-year-old also finished third in the sixth round of the Mini Max Championship on Saturday, leaving him sixth overall in the standings at Kimbolton.

Together the two rounds comprised the East Anglian Trophy.

In wet conditions, Bearman started seventh on the grid in round six and was up as high as third when he span off into the tyres.

The karts were then required to drive around slowly in a procession whilst the tyre barrier was repaired.

Bearman recovered and upon the re-start, Bearman fought his way back up to seventh.

The second heat was more of a struggle as Bearman started ninth before being punted out on the first corner, recovering to finish 11th.

Heat three saw the Theydon Bois racer climb from 17th to thirds to claim fourth-place on the grid for the final.

Embroiled in a four-way battle for third, Bearman eventually crossed the line in fourth but benefited when the winner was penalised for jumping the start, moving up a place to third.

In sunny conditions the following day, Bearman started fifth in the first heat before battling well to come out on top.

The second heat saw another impressive drive from the teenager, who shot up from 13th to third before climbing from 15th to eight in the final heat.

Those results put Bearman on pole for the final where he was overtaken by Tyler Sullivan at the end of the first lap.

Bearman, Sullivan and Rory Hudson circulated together for a while before Jonathan Hoggard replaced Hudson in the top three.

Sullivan eventually pulled away, tailed by Hoggard and Bearman, who crossed the line in that order.

Speaking afterwards, Bearman said: "It's been a good weekend, although I am a little disappointed not to have won on Sunday when I thought I was in the best position to do so.

"I'm really pleased to have made it onto the podium and to represent Clic Sargent, the children's cancer charity I have been raising money for."

Bearman continued: "I'd like to thank Grice Racing engines for supplying me with a top engine and CooperMotorsport for getting the set up right. Although we are a tiny team it feels great to have all this support - and from dad too who does all of the mechanic work. I can finally say that I've got to grips with the step up to Minimax which is about 6 seconds a lap faster than the cadet class I was in before, but it's a very different driving style".

Bearman's next race is in two weeks at Whilton Mill, where he currently leads the championship by 17 points over second-place Jordan Musk.
