Watford eyeing up Colombia and Atletico Nacional midfielder Alexander Mejia
The Hornets are considering a move for Colombian midfielder Alexander Mejia, the Watford Observer understands.
Watford remain in advanced talks with Hungary international Daniel Tozser and are confident a deal can be agreed.
But the club have been looking at other defensive midfielders and Mejia has impressed the Pozzos' scouting network.
Mejia is a 25-year-old holding midfielder who is part of Colombia's squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
He is a combative midfielder who breaks up the opposition play and is also said to have good technique and vision.
He joined Colombian amateur side Boca Juniors de Cali in his teens before moving to Deportes Quindío.
His impressive performances earned a loan move to Once Caldas in the top tier of Colombian football, the Categoría Primera A, in 2011.
A year later he joined Atletico Nacional and has enjoyed huge success. They won the Categoría Primera A in 2013 and are in the semi-finals of this year's competition, which has three stages. Nacional have also won two Copa Colombia trophies and a Superliga Colombiana.
Mejia was a second-half substitute in his country's 2-2 draw with Senegal at the weekend and was then forced off injured. Colombia's next game is against Jordan tomorrow.
