Algeria's Essaid Belkalem and South Korea's Chu-Young Park join exclusive Watford club

Essaid Belkalem will become part of a very small yet privileged club - which includes Hornets legend John Barnes - when the World Cup starts on June 12.

Belkalem should become one of only seven players to attend a World Cup whilst contracted to Watford.

Gerry Armstrong was at the 1982 tournament with Northern Ireland, John Barnes and John McClelland attended with England and Northern Ireland respectively four years later but then there was almost two decades until another Hornet went to world football's premier tournament.

In 2002 Pierre Issa played for South Africa before his Watford contract was terminated and Jay DeMerit featured heavily in 2010 for the USA before his Hornets deal expired.

This time around there should be two players in Brazil 2014 who are contracted to Watford.

Belkalem, whose loan deal with the Golden Boys was made permanent earlier this season, is in Algeria's 23-man squad and whilst he may have only played just over an hour for the Hornets this season, Arsenal and South Korea's Chu-Young Park's loan contract with Watford doesn't expire until June 30 so he joins the seven-man club.

Rubbing shoulders with some club legends there. Hope the big man has a good tournament and comes back fit and ready for the Championship.

To have Park deemed a Watford World Cup player is a bit of a joke. It may be technically correct, but as far as I'm concerned he shouldn't be anywhere on the list!

To mention Park and Belkalem as a WFC player is a joke. Neither of them cut the grade with us this season. Just a stats bit of rubbish. Gerry Armstrong was a star getting Northern Ireland so far in Spain and Jay was also a great player for us. John McClelland was one of our best ever leaders but Barnsie never lived up to his full potential after leaving us and not being allowed to play to his strengths. As for Pierre Issa the most entertaining thing was when he was taken off at The Vic and the stretcher bearers dropped him on the floor. Sheds load of money paid for a rubbish player. Anya will never get to any finals with Scotland me thinks..

i don't think we will be wanting to mention both these players' contribution in Brazil when both countries bomb out in the first round
