Watford are understood to have made a move for Czech Republic international and Yeovil Town goalkeeper Marek Stech.

The 24-year-old’s contract with the Glovers expires next month, although the club have offered him a new deal.

Sparta Prague are also interested in the stopper but, according to sources close to Yeovil, Watford are favourties to sign Stech.

The stopper, who is currently on international duty, told Czech news agency CTK that he has spoken to Watford and added he is hopeful of remaining in England if he leaves Yeovil.

“The Sparta lads already told me during training that they had heard something and that I was on my way back to Sparta,” he told CTK.

“I haven't even discussed it with Tomas, so I don't know if he is leaving or what.

"My Yeovil contract expires in a month and I am most likely not staying there as it would not be good for my future. I would like to stay in the Championship or even get into the Premier League, that's my dream.

“I don't want to go to a club where I would be a substitute again. When I joined West Ham in 2006 I was very young and spent three seasons as cover for Robert Green.

“He was basically not having any injuries, so I only appeared in three fixtures. My heart would be 100 per cent for the return to Sparta because I spent a lot of time there and I know the club.

“On the other hand, Watford is in the Championship. They have a chance to get into the play-offs and into the Premier League, which is excellent.

“I have been in England for almost eight years now, I have a family and I'm almost at home there. If it was possible, I would like to stay there. I would not be against moving elsewhere either, though.”

Stech began his career with Sparta Prague before joining West Ham United in 2006. He spent six years at Upton Park but only made three appearances, all of which came in the League Cup.

During his time with the Hammers, he was loaned to Wycombe Wanderers, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Leyton Orient.

He joined Yeovil permanently in 2012 after his contract with West Ham was cancelled by mutual consent.

He helped the club secure promotion to the Championship during his first season at Huish Park and was named man-of-the-match in their Play-Off final win against Brentford.

Stech made 29 appearances for Yeovil this season but was unable to keep the Glovers in the Championship.

Knows the Championship now. Done well and a free transfer so it makes sense. We can't afford to chuck away as many points as we have done in recent years because of Goalkeeping errors.

Plenty of practice at Yeovil until he came to play us at the Vic. One of our worst ever displays under Zola.

Good goalkeeper, and a good signing if we can get him.

The only keeper to keep two clean sheets against us last season, and that is us being the third top scorers in the division. Was impressed with him in both games, and would suit us nicely.

He didn't play against us at the Vic. Chris Dunn did.

Sounds promising, not sure how good Stech is, may be our Devon based hornets or Yeovil fans can give us a heads up. If it happens, think Bond will go out on loan - perhaps to Yeovil. I think that would do him good too. Would trust Gary Johnson (if still there) to help Jonathan's development.

This would mean Manuel leaving, possibly at th right time as his hamstring injuries seem too regular.

Good keeper, delayed Yeovil's demise by a few games.

I knew Bristol hornet was an armchair fan lol!

We hardly had a shot on goal in either game so even I could have kept those 2 clean sheets!

Sounds like a good signing, but number one? What about Bond. If don't play him we will lose him and he is a good up and coming keeper. He needs a run in the side and hopefully Woods will stay too.

I was there sunshine, but you show your ignorance of the game, so obviously you were not present!

We had 65% of the play and no less than 27 attempts on goal, so get your facts right mate before shouting your big gob off!

I think you've got this one wrong... We had 65% possession and 27 shots in the home game against Yeovil. Stech didn't play in that one. He only played in the away game - we had 2 shots on target there
