Watford are understood to have made a move for Czech Republic international and Yeovil Town goalkeeper Marek Stech.

The 24-year-old’s contract with the Glovers expires next month, although the club have offered him a new deal.

Sparta Prague are also interested in the stopper but, according to sources close to Yeovil, Watford are favourties to sign Stech.

The stopper, who is currently on international duty, told Czech news agency CTK that he has spoken to Watford and added he is hopeful of remaining in England if he leaves Yeovil.

“The Sparta lads already told me during training that they had heard something and that I was on my way back to Sparta,” he told CTK.

“I haven't even discussed it with Tomas, so I don't know if he is leaving or what.

"My Yeovil contract expires in a month and I am most likely not staying there as it would not be good for my future. I would like to stay in the Championship or even get into the Premier League, that's my dream.

“I don't want to go to a club where I would be a substitute again. When I joined West Ham in 2006 I was very young and spent three seasons as cover for Robert Green.

“He was basically not having any injuries, so I only appeared in three fixtures. My heart would be 100 per cent for the return to Sparta because I spent a lot of time there and I know the club.

“On the other hand, Watford is in the Championship. They have a chance to get into the play-offs and into the Premier League, which is excellent.

“I have been in England for almost eight years now, I have a family and I'm almost at home there. If it was possible, I would like to stay there. I would not be against moving elsewhere either, though.”

Stech began his career with Sparta Prague before joining West Ham United in 2006. He spent six years at Upton Park but only made three appearances, all of which came in the League Cup.

During his time with the Hammers, he was loaned to Wycombe Wanderers, Bournemouth, Yeovil and Leyton Orient.

He joined Yeovil permanently in 2012 after his contract with West Ham was cancelled by mutual consent.

He helped the club secure promotion to the Championship during his first season at Huish Park and was named man-of-the-match in their Play-Off final win against Brentford.

Stech made 29 appearances for Yeovil this season but was unable to keep the Glovers in the Championship.
