Russell Slade insists the entire club deserves credit for his joint LMA League 1 manager of the year award.

The O's manager received this honour alongside Wolves boss Kenny Jackett on Monday before guiding his side into the play-off final the following night.

Slade has the best win ratio percentage of any Orient manager at 42 per cent and guided the O's to a record haul of 86 points this season.

He admitted: “It’s nice to get the award particularly as it comes from other managers in your league. I’m obviously very thrilled to get that and I’ve won it once before with Yeovil. To get that again with Leyton Orient is really satisfying but again it’s not just down to me. It’s down to the players and the staff.

“I think there’s been some very good performances by managers in our league. Shaun Derry kept Notts County up, Steven Pressley [Coventry] with a ten-point deduction and playing at Sixfields, Nigel Clough reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup [Sheffield United] and going from bottom of the league to seventh. I think it’s been a remarkable season and for me to get that reward was a very proud moment.”

Orient’s opponents at Wembley will be either Rotherham United or Preston North End with the second leg taking place tonight after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Slade said: “I think it will be a very strong contest between those two. It’s a real war of attrition as they’re two very strong, physical sides.

“As you saw in the previous game at Preston there was very little in it and it promises to be an interesting game, so I’ll be glued to that,” the O’s boss added.
