Leyton Orient captain Nathan Clarke says the O's will be looking forward to a “massive” day at Wembley on May 25 and will be “desperate” to earn a place in the Championship on the hallowed turf.

Goals from Dean Cox and Chris Dagnall propelled the O’s to Wembley at the expense of Peterborough United, who were dispatched 3-2 on aggregate.

Speaking afterwards, Clarke said: “We look forward to a massive, massive day at Wembley and we’ll be raring to go. We’re desperate to go and do our thing and I’m sure we can.”

“These opportunities and occasions don’t come along very often. There’s certain lads who have never been in play-off situations before, so it’s a massive thing and one that we should be very proud of.”

Reflecting on a season in which they have continually upset the odds and belied their own expectations and those of others, Clarke added: “It’s been a tough season, but we’ve stuck together and we get a trip to Wembley, which is fantastic for these players, fantastic for this club and the fans as well. We’re going to have a right go, enjoy tonight and look forward to Wembley.”

He continued: “I think over the two games we’ve been fantastic. I think the focus has been unbelievable throughout both legs. Again we started today like a house on fire, we had a bit of a scramble in the first couple of minutes and it really set the tempo and we were on the front foot.

“We managed to keep the dangermen quiet for the majority of the game. Unbelievable, I’m overwhelmed a bit.”
