New Trust vice chairman wants fans to feel part of club

This Is Local London: Wanderers Trust vice chairman Matt Clarke Wanderers Trust vice chairman Matt Clarke

NEWLY appointed Wycombe Wanderers Trust vice chairman Matt Clarke said supporters will come back to Adams Park if they're made to feel part of their club and town.

Previously a director of the football club, Clarke was voted into the role at a Trust board meeting last week.

He said the crowds at Wanderers' biggest games of last season - with more than 7,000 packed into Adams Park - was proof the support for the club is out there.

But he added it's up to the Trust to tap into that potential and bring the casual fans back on a more regular basis.

Clarke told the Bucks Free Press: "I'd like fans to feel they're more a part of it and bring some pride back to their home town. There's so many good things in High Wycombe - there's the Swan, Eden, football and rugby; people sometimes forget how good a place it is.

"When I was younger you used to know people at the club and see them around the town. We need to have that face and engage with people.

"We've got to fight for the fans. You saw the crowds against Northampton and Bristol Rovers - people came out for that and the atmosphere was brilliant.

"It was great to see so many there. People will come out for the big games and the potential is there."

Clarke, a commercial property agent for a firm of chartered surveyors, helped to set up the 'No To Booker' group which campaigned against plans for Wanderers to move to a new stadium.

He stepped down as a director of the club in December 2012 as he was working very long hours.

He said: "I enjoyed the job but it was a bonkers job in terms of the amount of hours I was having to put in. I had a very young baby and was not getting an awful lot of sleep, which wasn't a great combination."

Clarke takes over as Trust vice chairman from Garry Heath, who will remain as chairman of the Frank Adams Legacy Ltd.

Clarke said: "I'm honoured to do this and be in this position. It means a lot to me."

The games with the biggest crowds were because the away support
was huge. Lets not get carried away thinking they were all Wycombe supporters. !!!

What he means is that he wants fans to part from their cash and put into a failed vanity project so he can get his salary from those funds.

He showed himself to not being up to the job with the takeover fiasco, straight after the Torquay game he spoke of exciting times ahead but that's gone so why say anything before securing a deal.? Get rid!!

Sorry but many supporters won't come back to Adams Park until the team are playing better football i.e. on the grass and producing winning results.
