Marco Cassetti has taken to Twitter tonight to reveal that his two-season stay at Vicarage Road is over.

The ‘Beard’, who was out of contract this summer, said: “I wanna just say thank you for everything to everyone of Watford FC’s family, fans, teammates etc etc. I really enjoyed my two years in England.”

Cassetti, who turns 37 later this month, played as a wing-back and a central defender with the Hornets, scoring one goal in a total of 81 appearances.

Prior to moving to Vicarage Road in August 2012 on a season-long loan, Cassetti enjoyed a fine career in Italy, becoming the first Lecce player to be capped by the national side - for whom he made five appearances - before he enjoyed six years with AS Roma.

During his time at the Hornets, Cassetti's family have remained in Italy and he spoke about them during an interview with the Watford Observer in March during when he discussed his enjoyment of playing in England.

A great player and man, to come to England at approaching 36 yrs old and to jump into a pacey, tough league like the Championship must of been hard but you made it look so easy! This just sums you up... Quality!
Like some of our friends have said...at 27-30 yrs of age I bet you were world class so I thank you again for choosing Watford, you've been a pleasure to watch and an inspiration to all that at 37 yrs of age it can be done!

Must have hit the bar with his last touch v huddersfield, would have been a fitting send off!

I wish I'd stayed for the farewell lap of honour now, but I was very angry after the team's performance

Marco is one of the guys we loved from the beginning. Pure class and has always give his all for the team. Almost better at CH than WB due to his excellent reading of the game. Will always be our favourite bearded player and I wish Marco the best of luck in the future. Luv the Horns!
