Five days after ending a poor league campaign with a home defeat to Walsall, Watford entertained National Luxembourg in a friendly game at Vicarage Road.
Schumacher's opener for the visitors suggested a competitive encounter, but the home side levelled by the interval and ran out 5-1 victors having been afforded too much space to play in the second half.
Tommy Paton, who was to manage one goal in 149 competitive appearances for the club, weighed in with a hat-trick and Cyril Thompson the other two but the Watford Observer was unimpressed, complaining of "far too much aimless, lofty, not to say useless kicking."
A crowd of 3,232 watched the tie.
