Watford are set to be without six players for tomorrow's Championship clash against Charlton Athletic

Watford are set to be without six players for tomorrow’s trip to Championship relegation battlers Charlton Athletic.

Back-to-back defeats mean the Hornets are unable to reach the play-offs while a victory for the Addicks would secure their place in the division.

Manuel Almunia will miss the match due to an Achilles injury while Almen Abdi will also be absent due to a knee problem.

Joel Ekstrand (ankle) is ruled out while Fernando Forestieri (toe) and Park Chu-Young (toe) are long-term absentees.

Marco Cassetti was sent off against Derby County on Saturday and is suspended for tomorrow’s game.

Lewis McGugan was brought off against the Rams in the second half and he is a doubt for the trip with a knee injury.

Gabriele Angella missed the weekend defeat but he trained today and is available for selection.

Hornets head coach Beppe Sannino hopes his side can end their campaign positively and is expecting a reaction from his players after consecutive losses.

He said: “We are coming back from two defeats so we need to show we’re disappointed and that we want to win.

“One of the reasons I like English football is because in every game there is the same commitment. You can see that the results in this league are unpredictable because all the teams play with the same commitment.”

He added: “Due to the injuries, there are fewer players too choose from but I will have enough players for the game. I am sure that those who are named will do the best they can.”

Watford have struggled on their travels throughout the season and have won just four league matches on the road.

Sannino said that it is "not possible to carry on this way" and added: "At the end of the season and we will reflect and try to fix the problem.”

One of the so-called "never occasions" that I would not be upset if Watford lose at Charlton and it sends Milwall down should they lose their last games, but then Brum are in dire straights and I do not like Brum fans either.

All I want is a win, our away form is awful, surely an Italian can tighten up our defence, we cannot keep going ahead in games and end up losing. If games were only 80mins long we would be top of the league !! Please please sign a couple of nasty British tough centre halfs, Cassetti is finished, he may be a really nice bloke but we don't need nice blokes, we want a nasty defence plus a captain who will get in the refs ear at every opportunity, not just accept everything. Come on lads, you all owe us the fans a good performance on Tuesday. Lets finish our away games with a win !!!

Whilst I agree with your conclusion which is we need more "steel" in the team including a really dominant centre half have to say that Cassetti is one of the most technically gifted players we have ever had in that position. Sure he is now passed his best and should retire, but really what a fantastic player he has been.

What is it with us and injuries these days. Even small knocks seem to keep players out for 2/3 games. Are we over cautious or getting something wrong.
Nando is a classic case....didn't look badly hurt but misses couple of games then gets injured coming on as sub. Misses more games and has another brief comeback terminated by injury. Such a shame as -at the time- he was our brightest spark up front.Thankfully Deeney rediscovered form for the run in. If we are going to make a better job of it next season we need our better players on the pitch for a lot more of the time that what we are seeing now.

Do you not think that Marco Casettit has now become more of a liability? His disciplinary record is very poor and his tackling judgment is also? H elet's us down too many times and is not of an age to bring on a Championship winning team. Dear Lloyd is an icon and should be retained but at his age it appears that he is no longer a 40 appearnce player anymor but still a massive squad player. Merkel has yet to convince me and the Algerian guy is not up to it and Brown has also been a bad buy and now farmed out. Should we lose Troy then we will be in dire straights next season.

sorry but Donny will drop with Barnsley and Yeovil irrespective of what happens between us and Charlton.

No point playing Woods. Give Bond another go.

Quite right, Bond needs a run and should be no 1 next season. Woods signed knowing that game time would be very hard to come by.

Cassetti was finished 12 months ago. How does he still get a game. He seems to be the only one who is not rotated. Thankful that he gets himself suspended though not through irresponsibility when we have to win. Out the door fast mr Cassetti and please no new contract talks for him. I said on here weeks ago plan and play for next season. Why persist with alumina etc go with those guys that will be here and work out who is surplus leaving gaps for the incoming. Hope we won't be experimenting come August. The owners have put up a squad that should have been easily good enough for top six. Some strong self reflection all round required. Come you horns.

Would like to see Bond; Faraoni, Angella, Hoban, Pudil; Anya, Tozser, Murray, Riera; Deeney, Ranegie. 4-4-2 was Beppe's preferred formation but didn't want to disrupt what the players were used to half way through the season. Now that the playoffs are done, let's experiment.

And to those wanting rid of Millwall I can assure you Birmingham has a far scummier set of fans but with little protection for visiting away supporters. Give me a few drinks at London Bridge over a last-train-at-21:30 any day.

Now it looks like the Canaries are doomed, the Hornets might be just as an attractive managers job for Malky to come back ?

Duxbury, Nani & Pozzos must have recognised the need for a proper Championship manager like Dyche to make a promo push, Malky has been seen at the Vic several times so must be known to said hierarchy.

Malky could muster old guard out of favour at Cardiff plus existing squad for a competitive forthcoming season. Fans would forgive him in view of Bassini bad ownership as good reason for his departure.

If Sannino is charge next season we will be in same position as now mid table mediocrity.

Deeney sale fee should be given to new proper championship mgr to fine tune squad.

The players attitude against Derby would not happen with Malky, Dyche or Jackett, but Sannino is a soft touch, "Words, but no strong action".

Cherries will be the Burnley of next year if Howe stays, Derby could be the Leicester if they do not go up. The relegated clubs will be playoffs there thereabouts no more.

If Malky is appointed we would be playoff material as defence would be improved by strong mentoring from Malky and a proper captain would be appointed.

Reality says Norwich will outbid us for Malky's services.

We will see.

Sannino a soft touch? Have you ever seen him stop shouting at players on a match day? Zola was a soft touch. We had plenty of gutless performances under Malky and Dyche, too.
