Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers athletes had a good final weekend before the league season re-commences.

Recent England Under-17 international Jamal Lewis won the Flitwick 10k in a highly respectable time of 27.4. The race was shortened to 5.6 miles after a serious traffic accident in the area.

In the Bedfordshire Open Meeting in Sandy, Under-13 Ben Bellisario ran a personal best of 32.5 in the 200m before recording another personal best of 1.35m in the high jump.

Under-20 Matthew Hall ran a personal best of 17.8 in the 110m Hurdles and vaulted 2.40m in the pole vault at the same meeting.

Elsewhere, in the Hercules Wimbledon Open, Under-20 Zanson Plummer ran an impressive 11 seconds in the 100m to gain a seasons’ best performance, ranking him second in the UK in 2014.

Across the pond in the United States, Gemma Nicol ran a season’s best time of 53.49 in the 400m in Gainesville, Florida, which ranked her in the top ten in 2014.

In Stanford, California, Beth Porter shaved a massive five and a half seconds off her best time in 2013, positioning her in fourth place in the UK 2014 rankings.

With various parkruns across the country there were victories for Under-15s George Groom and Anthony Whiteman, with John Whitworth claiming a respectable sixth place and Under-23 Melissa Courtney running a personal best to finish in tenth place.
