Wood hopeful of change of luck for Blues

This Is Local London: Sam Wood Sam Wood

SAM Wood hopes Wanderers' victory over Dagenham and Redbridge is symptomatic of a change of fortune for the season's run-in.

Blues were given two lifelines on Saturday as visiting defender Scott Doe was sent off in the first half for violent conduct, before Wanderers were awarded a penalty in the opening minute of the second period.

Steven Craig converted the spot-kick and going in front against ten men handed the Chairboys a much-needed confidence boost as they proceeded to dominate the rest of the game, at times playing with a swagger associated with a team pushing for promotion.

Wood said it was payback for refereeing decisions that have cost Wanderers points at key times in the season, and said a recent disallowed goal at Cheltenham Town was the latest example of Lady Luck laughing in Wycombe faces.

He said: "We got the luck today. I thought it was a sending off because he's put his hands up to Stevie - you can't do that.

"We had to make the most of it. We've had a little bit of luck going our way. Hopefully it'll carry on for the rest of the season.

"We've had a lot of decisions over the season that haven't gone our way. Gaz told us from the match report from the ref at Cheltenham, the goal should have stood."

But Wood, who was named man of the match, said it wasn't fortunate Blues claimed a vital three points from a 2-0 win, saying his side were well on top even before Doe received his marching orders.

He said: "With 11 men we were on top anyway. I think we'd have still won the game. Them going down to ten men made it a lot easier for us but we still had to play the way we did and get the goals and get the three points. They weren't going to make it easy for us.

"It's an absolutely massive three points. We needed the points today and we got them."
