Wood: Craig proved his critics wrong
SAM Wood said Steven Craig proved people wrong with his performance against Dagenham on Saturday - and called for fans to present a united front.
Wood said it was vital everyone connected with Wanderers stuck together in the last month of the season as Blues seek to climb away from relegation danger.
Striker Craig's pre-match comments about concerns over the club's financial situation drew a frosty reaction from supporters, but Wood said it was a mark of the man that he didn't let it affect his performance.
The 27-year-old, who received the sponsors' man of the match award for his display in the 2-0 win over the Daggers, said: "Stevie was excellent today. He stood up to the abuse he was getting and he proved everyone wrong.
"To step up for the penalty, it's a lot on his shoulders and he stepped up. That's the kind of character he is. He faces it all the time and does what he's got to do.
"He said what he said. It didn't affect his performance on the pitch, which is what Stevie's all about.
"Hopefully everyone will get behind him now, and the team, and we all stick together."
Craig tweeted after the game: "Like to thank all the true fans and my teammates for their support in the last two days. Great result and performance from the boys."
