Charlton striker Simon Church admits the pressure is now on him and his team-mates to convert their chances when they come along.
The Addicks remain the Championship’s lowest scorers and were beaten 1-0 at The Valley by Reading on Saturday without ever testing visiting keeper Alex McCarthy.
And Church ackowledged whenever his side are presented with openings in front of goal, they have to capitalise.
“It is the case now that if you get a chance then you have to take it,” said the Welsh international forward.
“But I wouldn’t say that that is in the back of my mind.
“Especially where we are, we have got to be creating more and taking our chances.
“The defence have kept up their end of the deal and have got a couple of clean sheets recently and it is up to us to start creating and scoring some goals.”
Church also called for everyone in the Charlton camp to pull together in the final month of the campaign to ensure the SE7 side do secure their Championship status.
“We are a team and we have got to stick together and keep on going,” he said.
“It is clear for everyone to see that we are not creating as many chances as we can but considering where we are in the league we need to win games - and win ugly if necessary.
“We have had a few good results lately but we have got a lot of games coming up, so we need to stick together and get through it.
“More times than not this season we have had to do a lot of unselfish work for the team.
“Obviously I want to score a lot more goals and so does everyone else.
“We are not hiding from the fact we don’t score or create enough and as a striker, it is frustrating when you come off the pitch without a goal.”
Church had been on Reading’s books since the age of 14 before he moved to SE7 in the summer.
And the striker felt that the Addicks were unfortunate against his former employers. He explained: “It was a frustrating game. We knew it would be tough and I thought we did well in the first half.
“We kept the ball well and in the second half I thought we did OK as well.
“But we didn’t really created enough to cause them a problem.”
The Welshman addeed: “It was nice to catch up with a few old faces, obviously I know a lot of people there.
“It is always nice to see them doing well but we could have done with the win ourselves.
“I wouldn’t have minded scoring and winning the game for us.
“But fair play to them, I hope they do well between now and the end of the season.”
