Would I take a point now? Very possibly

This Is Local London: Leon Johnson scores Wanderers' equaliser the last time they met Scunthorpe Leon Johnson scores Wanderers' equaliser the last time they met Scunthorpe

BLUES boss Gareth Ainsworth admits he'd probably settle for a point now if one was offered to him ahead of tomorrow's game against the side with the Football League's longest unbeaten run.

Wanderers last faced Scunthorpe United in December in the Iron's caretaker manager Russ Wilcox's fourth match in charge.

A last minute Leon Johnson equaliser meant Blues brought an end to Wilcox's 100 per cent winning start - but fast forward three months and the former Scunthorpe player is now the team's permanent manager and is still to taste defeat.

Scunny's incredible 23 match unbeaten run has propelled them all the way up to second in the table, leaving Blues with a daunting task to take all three points.

Although Ainsworth insisted his men would be heading to Glanford Park aiming for victory, he conceded he would probably be happy with a draw.

Asked if he'd take a draw prior to kick off, the Wanderers chief said: "Very possibly. I don't want to be not optimistic because Gareth Ainsworth always is - I always believe we can get three points.

"We went to Gillingham last year and people would have said, 'Would you take a point?' I'd have probably said yes, but we ended up getting three.

"There's always that little thing, I don't know what it is, inside me - that optimistic streak that we can get all three points. One would be nice to build off and we'd accept one, but give me three as well."

He added: "I think they have equalled some sort of record, which means they can probably break that record on Saturday. That's extra motivation for us not to let that happen.

"It's a phenomenal record and something to be proud of but we are fighting for our lives here and we'll be giving our all to get the points at Scunthorpe.”
