We are entering that exciting part of the season where league positions and the Championship’s promotion candidates begin to take shape.

While the automatic promotion spots look to be almost decided, the play-off contenders are once again as unpredictable as ever.

Teams continue to lack the ruthless promotion form required and there are a handful of clubs sitting on the periphery waiting for their chance.

However, as Wigan Athletic, Brighton, Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers tip their toes in and out of the promotion hot bath, we sit in the shadows, unfancied by many but still very much in with a chance.

Every season, there is always one team that makes a late surge and seals a potential shot at the big time.

Watford sit seven points off of the play-offs with a game in hand on Reading, who are struggling to string a good run of results together.

So can the Golden Boys make that dramatic final push into the play-off mix? If we are to do so then nine points in our next three games are essential. Luckily they are all very winnable.

Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley and Wigan, three matches which exude the word momentum. Three wins against these sides could give Watford the platform to make that crucial burst.

Although Watford have struggled on their travels throughout the season, three points at Doncaster, a side whose home form is the sole reason they are not already relegated, would be a big confidence boost.

Finding an illusive away win could set the ball rolling. With the squad boosted by the returning Fernando Forestieri and Lewis McGugan, Watford have the guile and creativity to open up the dogged relegation strugglers.

Despite Wigan posing a different kind of threat, a good cup run doesn’t always bode well for a club’s respective league form.

Although both sides are well matched, playing a team with one eye on an FA cup semi-final could fall in our favour.

Let’s hope a noble defeat to Arsenal at Wembley is the only thing the Latics have to look forward to this season.
