MARK Goldberg was pleased with 10-man Bromley’s defensive resolve in Saturday’s 2-1 home win over Boreham Wood.

With the previous weekend’s disappointing defeat to Dorchester still in mind, the Lillywhites had a point to prove to kick-start their fight to secure promotion.

Leading 2-0 thanks to strikes from Pierre Joseph-Dubois and Bradley Goldberg, a 25th minute red card for captain Rob Swaine meant the home side were forced to abandon the offensive tactics and completely redefine their shape.

But the squad’s tenacity and drive to walk away with three points on Saturday was a clear reminder of why Bromley still remain at the top of the Conference South.

Manager Goldberg said: “I was pleased with our discipline.

“I felt we kept our shape extremely well considering we went down to 10-men with more than an hour to go. We started well - and we needed to.

“We couldn’t have got off to a better start, scoring two good goals and looking likely to go on to add more.

“It was just very disappointing we suffered the sending off at the time we did.”

The second half saw the away side take advantage of their extra man.

A 70th minute strike by Boreham Wood’s Luke Garrard set up a tense finale, but leaders Bromley dug deep to hold on for another three points.

“The shape that we kept and the attitude towards the game was deserved of being top of the league,” added the Hayes Lane manager.

“When we got the ball, we retained it for long periods and tired them out.

“Some of the football we played, considering the circumstances, was very pleasing.”

The Lillywhites have now won four games out of a possible six in 2014, form Goldberg is determined to build on in the crucial final two months of the campaign.

“We have to just keep believing that we can win every game,” he said.

“The squad is full of confidence and we have to learn from the games where we don’t do so well.

“I think we learned from last week at Dorchester, we got back onto the basics of what we needed to do today.”

Goldberg also believes there is a key to maintaining this momentum.

“If we remember what has got us to where we are, we keep our discipline and don’t just expect we’ll win games, then we stand a good chance of keeping our run going.”
