CHRIS Powell is not optimistic about sealing a loan deal for QPR winger Shaun Wright-Phillips - but remains hopeful of luring Jonny Williams to The Valley.
Charlton host the Hoops this afternoon but Wright-Phillips, who has only featured once since November, is unlikely to play a part.
Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis has already stated Williams will be available for loan once the Eagles have played Manchester United today.
And Powell, who also recently missed out on Blackburn’s Leon Best, is looking to bolster his squad with some quality.
The SE7 boss said: “We have enquired about a number of players, and we don’t usually say who they are, but he (Wright-Phillips) is one that we have looked at.
“Whether something will happen there I don’t know, but I am sure that I’ll speak to Harry today and I’m sure our fans would want to sing a song about him.
“Shaun hasn’t played much football, but he is a good player.
“When you bring those sorts of players to the club, you want them to show that they are still hungry and still want it.
“I’m sure he would do that because I know him as a character, but it is not something that is imminent.
“I don’t think at this present time that it is going to happen, but we want players of that calibre to come in and prove themselves.”
On Williams, Powell added: “He’s a good, lively and exciting player.
“We do need players of that quality to come in.
"Whether that happens and whether there is a queue of clubs, I don’t know.
“He is a decent player and someone who I have seen over the last year or two who I feel, that if he did come here, would improve us.
“I have known Tony Pulis for a couple of years, especially when I bought Ricardo Fuller here.
“I made sure I spoke to Tony at length. I spoke to him about Leon Cort as well, and if things like that are in our favour then I am all for it.”
The Addicks looked set to add Best to their ranks last week only for him to eventually join Sheffield Wednesday.
Powell said: “It was a number of factors.
“Location didn’t help us. Sometimes it does, and London is sometimes an attractive option, but he is settled with his family up there.
“I would say to all of the fans that we have been trying, but we keep getting pipped to the post, which isn’t great.
“We are still endeavouring to improve our squad because we do need it, especially for these 18 games. We need players that are going to make a difference and an impact.”
