Former Coventry City and Barnsley striker Chris Dagnall insists promotion with Leyton Orient is his target
Chris Dagnall insists his only target this season is to help his new club win promotion to the Championship.
The striker, who joined the O’s on an 18-month contract at the end of last month, netted his first goal at Brisbane Road in Tuesday’s win over Stevenage.
Dagnall has scored three times since moving to East London but claims the only focus in his mind is ensuring Orient are celebrating League 1 success at the end of the campaign.
Dagnall [pictured] said: “My only target is the same as everyone else at the club and that’s to get promotion. Regardless of how many I score or don’t score, as long as the club gets promotion that’s the number one target.”
The former Barnsley striker made a big impact on his debut scoring twice in Orient’s win at Crewe but it has not been easy for him in recent weeks. But Dagnall looked very sharp against Stevenage in arguably his best performance in an O’s shirt.
He said: “In terms of chances I think it was my best game. It was nice to get a good four or five decent chances. I’ve had three or four games and not really had a decent chance. It was nice to get a bit of shooting practice in and put one away.”
Shaun Batt returned this week from a hamstring injury and with David Mooney and Kevin Lisbie fit and available, Dagnall knows that he will have to keep producing the goods to stay in the team.
The 27-year-old said: “The competition for places is red hot right now and the only way to stay in the team is by firstly winning and scoring goals. If we’re not winning or scoring then you can’t expect to stay in the team.
“They are all top guys. Mooney and Lisbie have scored plenty of goals here this season and with Batts coming on as well there is plenty of competition for places which is good for the club.”
