Danny Drinkwater’s injury-time equaliser for Leicester City on Saturday cost Watford two points but the net effect of the Hornets scoring and conceding goals in the final ten minutes of games has cancelled itself out so far this season.

The strike by the Foxes midfielder in the fourth minute of injury time was the eighth time the Hornets have conceded a goal including and after the 81st minute of league matches in the current campaign and it has cost them seven points.

On three occasions – at Blackpool, at home to Derby County and away at Nottingham Forest – Watford have been drawing going into the last ten minutes of fixtures and been beaten, while Leicester was the second time the Hornets have let a winning position slip (the other was at Middlesbrough) and had to settle for a share of the spoils.

In the other two games – the 3-0 defeats to the Foxes and Yeovil Town at Vicarage Road – Watford were already 2-0 down going into the final ten matches and so the third goal made no material difference to the Hornets’ chances of adding to their points tally.

On the flip side though, Watford have scored seven goals after the 81st minute of games and gained seven points as a result this season.

Draws were turned into wins at home to Doncaster Rovers and Wigan Athletic, while a point was secured on the back of losing positions at Reading, Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

Watford were already leading Bournemouth 4-1 before two late Troy Deeney goals secured his hat-trick and a 6-1 victory in the opening home game of the season.
