A fifth round replay with Walsall in the FA Cup provided plenty of drama at Vicarage Road.
Walsall's early lead was cancelled out by a Kenny Jackett penalty on half-time. The sides traded goals within five minutes of the restart, and again with 15 minutes to go.
John Barnes put the Hornets 4-3 up at the start of extra-time, but Trevor Christie grabbed his second of the evening eight minutes later to send the tie to a second replay, which Watford were to win by a single goal.
Graham Taylor commented: "It was enough to make me turn grey overnight."
