Watford entertained Bill Shankly's Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at Vicarage Road.

Shankly had claimed that he would not have come to watch Watford play if he lived in the town and had been given a free ticket, but the Reds were comprehensively outplayed.

Former pub footballer Barry Endean's thumping header to Lugg's low cross was enough to book Watford's semi-final defeat.

Attendance 52 short of the record attendance at Vic Rd, set the season before for Man Utd game. Ticket prices were doubled so the club could make money. Watford supporters understood the need to cash in - but Liverpool kicked up. Funny given they were and are one of the lead teams holding real football fans to ransom to watch a game.

Great times, Colin Franks thunderbolt in earlier round, and real singing in the Rookery. "Sir Alf , Sir Alf come see this Endean lad" and "All you need is Lugg, Lugg , Lugg is all you need"
