After conceding two early goals against Notts County at Meadow Lane, the Hornets came back strongly to lead at half-time through two Nigel Callaghan strikes and an own goal.
George Reilly added another a minute into the second half, and though the Magpies pulled one back, Mo Johnston was able to confirm the 5-3 victory eight minutes from time.
The Hornets' ninth league win in 12 put them into the top half of the first division for the first time that season.
