A team of Redbridge Under-13s will be given the chance to take guard on the same wicket as the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cooke after they qualified for the finals of the Balfour Beatty Youth Games on Saturda to be played at Lord's.

The borough team, who last won this competition in 2012, were unbeaten in their group matches at the Harrow Leisure Centre having recorded victories over Brent, Kingston and Westminster.

Redbridge are one of seven boroughs to have made it to the finals which take place at the home of cricket on Sunday, March 2.

Team Manager Mahesh Velani said: "It feels really good to be in the finals again. I am delighted for the guys who get a day at Lords.

"We started our training in January so we’ve had about four weeks. We had a few trials beforehand so they’ve known each other because they play for the same clubs. A few of them play for the same club and the same county so they’re fairly familiar with each other.

"The London Youth Games is a good event because it brings the community together. They play for different clubs but they don’t play in the same team so it gives them that opportunity to play with different players and players that they do know, and ones they live next to."

The London Youth Games is Europe's largest annual youth sports event and involves all 33 London boroughs.
