Watford boss Beppe Sannino calls for more personality after 4-2 loss at Nottingham Forest

Watford boss Beppe Sannino believes his players have to show more personality in their performances but conceded Nottingham Forest were good value for their 4-2 win at the City Ground.

Gabriele Angella put the Hornets 2-0 up but the home side came storming back, scoring four goals in the last half an hour to turn the game around.

Sannino insists there were positives to take from the defeat but says his players have to show more character if they are to start climbing the Championship table.

He said: “It's not only the mental side, it's the battling side, the personality.

“We couldn't keep the right distances apart and after we conceded the first goal the crowd helped them a lot. It was difficult.”

Sannino continued: "It's like a war - we have to consider the personality of the players and I blame myself as well.

"Before Manchester City, I was very happy because we had conceded very few goals but we need to reflect now because we have conceded eight goals in two games.”

Three Forest substitutes scored all four of the hosts’ goals in the second period as Simon Cox claimed two and there was one each for Jamie Mackie and Darius Henderson.

Sannino paid tribute to Forest and admitted Watford’s opponents were the better team in the second period.

“I think we should be honest and say Nottingham Forest were better than us in the second half,” said the Italian.

“They were pushing a lot and we were not able to prevent them from delivering crosses from out wide and this was a problem for us. We conceded three goals that were the same.

"We pay compliments to Forest because they played well in the second half and now we have to forget tonight very quickly because we have to prepare for the next game on Sunday."

The Hornets have only won two of their nine matches since Sannino’s arrival but when asked he if had been disappointed by his start, the Italian remained philosophical.

"I came here to change the inertia of the results,” replied the Watford boss.

"Sometimes in some games we have deserved a little bit more but tonight I can only say congratulations to Nottingham Forest because they were better than us."

I'm a Nottingham Forest fan who went to the game on thursday night. I can tell you all that you have a good footballing side but you are too slow and have no back bone. When you put your foot on the ball you can play sweet good football. When the tempo is raised you are slow and frightend to get involed to win the ball back. You had a very good manager in Zola.Your owner reflects your supporters who don't look and consider all the game. The supporters crow when they are 2nil up but don't have any sustance and fall away when you have a blip.So the football club is soft at heart and will never win a thing with short term mentality. You were blessed with Zola and should have stayed with him.DON'T BLAME YOUR NEW MANAGER LOOK AT YOUR FANS AND YOUR OWNER.

Yeah the game was lost because the fans didn't cheer! Of course! I totally get it now! It's all our fault, nothing to do with the players or management!

Wrong player, wrong tactics....wrong substitutes and yet again no plan b (oh and of course no support)

These northern muppets would understand why we are quiet when we get served up this dross week in week out, forest fans were not banging any drums when they were 2 nil down by the way.

A shambles. Zola could not sort it out and Sinnino is doing no better. Some of the players are not up to the mark but could and should be and other good players have lost their way. Headless chickens at time and we just crumble under pressure, either of the opponents making or our own silly errors. Goals win games. Wins bring confidence and those in charge must take the blame for not finding someone to partner Denney who knows where the goals and what to do with the ball.

We looked horrid. The list of underperformers is now ever growing. Its upsetting but we need a goalkeeper in a hurry. I am not sure why he is playing volleyball as he was top goalkeeper. Doyley should be given a long service medal and help in club.We should have took Forest apart but we sat back on lead and was hopelessly out played in second half. Do we lack fitness because it now seems the pattern we follow.
We have all the skill in the world but our midfield is so patchy, Abdi is not ready its clear to see . I feel sorry for the Pozzos they are doing all they can for the club, but the staff and players need to look at themselfs when they pick up there wages.. 10 out of 10 for Angella easily the best player at the club.

well what to say, that was a car crash of a performance and it would seem that
we are now in a real relegation fight.
I really feel for those poor souls that went to the game, what a dreadfull
team effort.
Oh for a player like Reid, he was fantastic and with the support of Moussi went
through us with ease. We have no PHYSICAL presence in the midfield and
are swept away by teams. Why is Hall not in the team????????????????
?

were to from here? unless we have a radical change of thinking and players
we will be in Div 1 next season.
Give me some English steel in the team and backbone. Bad enough us knowing that we have a poor team, trouble with tv matches is that
tens of thousands more people now realise the fact.

Ahh a fan from a so called 'historical big club' that has acheived zip in the last 30 years.....

What do you know about our owner? I suspect nought. Zola wasn't sacked - he walked and is still loved by the fans and club. Get your facts straight before coming onto our site and spouting absolute c**p.

Sorry we are a 'soft club'? In my book any club that plays 'mull of Kintyre' before kick off is beyond soft. Totally cringeworthy and to see your gnarly, runt of a manager jumping up and down the touchline is just embarassing..He really is an absolute t**t....

I'm afraid it will all end in tears for you lot when you get battered in the play offs by the sheep shaggers up the road.

Didn't Zola ask for personality after one of the many abject losses at home earlier in the season?

We are in a relegation dogfight but sadly, on last night's showing, we have very few dogs or fighters in our team. Angella and Deeney aside (woefully isolated - how on earth does 1 vs 4 work unless that one is Ronaldo or Messi?) the rest were gutless, slow, lazy and no one stepped up as a leader.

Substitutions were awful too - Hall, the tallest defender and lately playing really well, left on the bench whilst Doyley is on the pitch looking completely at sea?

Why are Merkel and Bellerin even here? Both very highly rated young players from TOP clubs yet they are glued to the bench but Cassetti comes on?

The players need to look at themselves and start earning their salaries. But the manager also needs to look at his line-up and substitions because last night even Stevie Wonder could see he got it woefully wrong.

Terrible performance, ok Zola needed to be replaced but with a decent coach this Sannino is a clown but if you are a Watford fan it is no joke. He will not be here at the begining of next season (whatever division we may be in) he was out of work & he is cheap this season was a right off long before Christmas, so we bring him in till the end of the season & then we go again next season, that was the original plan but now we are looking at league 1 like it or not. We need to win 7/8 games not to be relegated they way we are playing at the moment I would not be having a bet on it. The main problem is there are too many players at the club not suited to Championship football, the midfield has a very soft centre as Forest showed last night.

I' don't have any problem with Forest, decent enough club. But thinking you have history just because you had a run in the late 70's early 80's that you haven't repeated before or since, and which was basically a fluke, is a bit much. We can all pick stats it suit our cause mate. Mine would be - since you last won the league, who has finished higher in the top division, Forest or Watford? The answer is Watford - does that give us 'history'?
