Ainsworth content to see the same again

This Is Local London: Gareth Ainsworth Gareth Ainsworth

WANDERERS boss Gareth Ainsworth said a repeat of the performance in the draw at Mansfield will be enough to secure a win against Portsmouth at Adams Park this evening.

Blues started their run of four games against teams around them at the foot of the League Two table with a point, having let slip a 2-0 lead to draw at Field Mill on Saturday.

But Ainsworth was impressed with his side's display and wants the same again as freefalling Pompey arrive in south Bucks tonight.

It's a crucial game for both sides, with Wanderers and Portsmouth both out of form.

Pompey are below Blues on goal difference, less than four years after playing in the Premier League and contesting an FA Cup final, and have won once in their last 13 - while Wanderers have only picked up three points in one of their last 14 matches.

But Ainsworth said: "I believe we can win on Tuesday now after seeing that.

"We've gone up a place in the league, which is a positive. We've got games thick and fast now. It's getting tight at the bottom - one win will propel you about five places. I'm really looking forward to Tuesday now - I can't wait.

"On Tuesday we can put out a strong team with legs and give a struggling Portsmouth team a real game."

Ainsworth was pleased at the way new signings Reece Styche, Jordan Mustoe and Anthony Jeffrey all adapted to the side, and said the Wanderers fans were also impressed at what they had seen on Saturday.

He said: "They can see the positives in the new signings coming in and doing well for us. Hopefully we can go again and get the points on Tuesday."

Ainsworth was hoping to have Matt Bloomfield available for selection for tonight's game, with the long serving midfielder having missed the trip to Mansfield through illness.
