BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg is continuing to keep his feet on the ground despite his side maintaining their 11-point lead at the top of the Conference South.

The Lillywhites earned a 19th win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading at Hayes Lane on Saturday but speaking exclusively to News Shopper Goldberg dismissed any use of the promotion word just yet.

He said: “We really have taken every game as it comes, and we’ve had to because we haven’t achieved anything yet.

“We’re very lucky that we’re in a good position and we’ve earned our right to be here but unfortunately the season isn’t over until we either win something or we at least give it our best shot.”

Goldberg added: “In the summer I said we wanted to have the best finish we’ve had since I’ve been involved with the club.

“I believed that we had a squad that was capable of doing that in pre-season.

“I think we’re proving that and I do think we will finish much higher than we ever have before.”

Bromley legend Nic McDonnell scored a 79th minute winner against Hayes & Yeading moments after Dean Inman headed home an equaliser to cancel out captain Rob Swaine’s first-half opener.

It was McDonnell’s first goal since making a surprise return to Hayes Lane earlier in the season.

And despite question marks arising over whether or not the striker had got a final touch on Albert Jarrett’s cross, Goldberg insisted the goal was his.

“I’ve seen those sort of goals often,” said the Bromley boss.

“When the winger cuts inside and curls it far post, if anybody gets anything on it or gets in front of the keeper to put him off that’s good football and well-worked.

“It was a fantastic run by Nic to get there and to be honest I think he got just something on it, enough, even if just a fraction, to claim the goal and enough for us to claim three points.

“For what he did, Nic deserves to be credited with the goal.”

Goldberg added: “I don’t want to paint over the cracks, I was a little bit disappointed with how we played for a 20 minute spell.

“We sat too deep and invited a bit of pressure on to us.

“Their equaliser was coming but we responded really well from that.

“We got the winner and we grounded out the win.”
