REECE Styche is the man to improve Wanderers' form in front of goal, believes Blues boss Gareth Ainsworth.

The former plumber went straight into the Wycombe side that faced Mansfield Town on Saturday, having only joined on loan from Forest Green Rovers the previous day.

Styche scored at a rate of one goal every three games for the Gloucestershire outfit before snapping a cruciate ligament last February.

But he impressed with his work rate and ability to hold the ball up for his new team mates on his debut - and Ainsworth believes it's a sign of things to come from the 24-year-old.

Wanderers had only scored once in the four matches prior to Saturday's 2-2 draw at Field Mill and Ainsworth said: "He'll make things hard for centre halves and he'll put himself about, and he did that today for me.

"It's only his second start of the season. He needs match fitness and once Reece gets a lot more games under his belt, he'll be a big player for us. He'll get some goals for us."

Ainsworth was also impressed by the display in a first start for Wigan loanee Jordan Mustoe and a late cameo from striker Anthony Jeffrey, and he said they will perform well for Blues as they look to edge their way out of trouble at the foot of the League Two table.

He said: "The lads who've come in showed they are ready to play for Wycombe Wanderers. We can work on them. Reece Styche only came in yesterday, Anthony Jeffrey on Thursday. There's plenty of work to do and I'm looking forward to doing it."
