Youth team coach Dave Hughes admits his team are a privilege to work with after Watford stunned FA Youth Cup holders Norwich City.

The Hornets beat the Canaries 3-1 at Vicarage Road on Saturday to secure a home tie against Liverpool in the competition.

Hughes said: "I'm proud, delighted and have nothing but admiration for the group of players that I work with. I say it regularly that they're a privilege to work with. Their attitude and application, which make no mistake is the most important part, is spot on.

"There are no egos amongst them. They're grounded and determined to challenge and push themselves to the next level. That's the most important aspect for me in developing players."

Norwich were overwhelmed by Watford's start after goals from Alex Jakubiak, Josh Doherty and George Byers gave them a commanding 3-0 lead after just 21 minutes.

Hughes said: "Norwich won it last year so let's show respect to them. They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half but from my point of view, I thought we managed the game well. We knew they were going to try and get the ball forward early in the second half to try and get back in the game.

"Our gameplan was to weather the storm and try and put as much pressure as we could but it's difficult sometimes when the opposition get momentum. We got bodies on the line, defended well and made it very difficult for them.

"On the counter-attack I thought we were very good. Our delivery from wide areas was also very good at times. I have to say I'm so proud of the lads. They deserve their victory because their performance reflected it."

Watford's reward is a home tie against Liverpool in the next round and Hughes knows his players will relish this opportunity.

He said: "We now have another challenge for the lads to look forward to. That's what it is. It's enjoyable and sometimes they put themselves under a lot of pressure in the youth cup.

"I've said to them there will be a team they come across, because of the way we play and create chances, that we put to the sword."
