The Watford Observer has been told the Hornets have not contacted Chelsea over the possibility of loaning Nathan Ake, contrary to reports.

Ake, who can play in defence or as a holding midfielder, made his Chelsea debut as a 17 year old in December 2012 and was in the Blues squad 21 times during the second half of last season, starting three matches and coming on three times.

It was reported earlier this week that Watford, Burnley and Wigan Athletic had all tried, unsuccessfully, to loan Chelsea's current young player of the year.

But, whilst we understand Watford did try to sign Ake under Gianfranco Zola, a source has told us the Hornets are not one of the clubs who have contacted Chelsea about loaning the Dutchman during this transfer window.

The 18-year-old's agent, Daan Kramp, told the Daily Mail that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sees Ake as "a potential player for the first team" and added that the Blues "definitely" want him to stay at the club.
