Crostyx Juniors secure best results of the season at Essex Minis Tournament

Crostyx Juniors secured their best set of results for the Essex Mini League so far on Sunday, winning ten of their 12 matches played.

Under-10 Girls

The Crostyx Under-10 girls are a young side and full of potential and commitment.

This was very evident in their match against Southend & Thurrock.

Inspirational Kiera Murphy was aided by Alice Kilby and Lottie Gillett in midfield and when Southend & Thurrock managed to get through Maddie and Tabitha in defence.

As the game wore on chances fell to Sophie Mackenzie and Sunni but they were unable to breakthrough before some great work from Bebe created panic in the D as the ball span loose Tabitha forced in a home goal. Final score 1-0.

The Under-10 girls' second game saw Crostyx take on a strong Tower Hamlets side and Crostyx never letter them settle from the first whistle.

Kate and Freya harried and hassled and it was only some wayward passing that let Crostyx down.

It looked like it was heading for a draw but a free hit taken by Gillett found Murphy out wide, who in a move straight from the training ground opened up the Tower Hamlets defence before she found Bebe who was the most determined of all the players close to the ball as she ensured the ball was slotted home for a 1-0 Crostyx victory.

Hopes were high as the Under-10 girls took to the third and final game of the day against the inform Hertford.

Despite plenty of toil and effort, in truth Crostyx were blown away by a bigger, older, wiser team who punished them on the break and always looked favourites after an early goal.

Crostyx could never get into the match and ended up losing 4-0.

Coach Nick Gillett said: "Overall the players will be stronger for the experience and they will look forward to the next fixutres to build on their experience."

Under-12 Girls

The Under-12 girls had a fantastic set of results on Sunday playing three and winning three in the Essex Mini League.

Crostyx Under-12 girls' first opposition were Southend & Thurrock.

Crostyx had a squad of nine so the rotation of fresh legs worked well. Siena Crossley, Safia Sheikh, Immogen Murphy and Zaynab Dar with spells in the defence, Helene Standring and Ruby James pairing up well in the midfield and Lucy Leel and Clara Johnston linking superbly in attack.

The girls opened the scoring with a superb solo effort from Leel shooting from the top of the D to score, the second goal came from Johnston after some excellent link up play with Standring.

Southend & Thurrock pushed forward until the very end and with a couple of minutes to go the score was level at 2-2.

Leel made a quick break and managed to score to lead at 3-2 but Southend 7 Thurrock continued to push forward. Talia Blanco made some class saves to ensure three points for the girls.

The Crostyx girls second game was against Tower Hamlets and as the defence absorbed the pressure the goals flew in. There were seven goals in total including Leel (2), Johnston (2), Standring (2) and James.

The third and final match of the tournament was against the toughest opposition of the day - Hertford.

Hertford broke early and slipped a goal into the corner of the Crostyx goal. The girls did well and absorbed a lot of pressure at the beginning of the match. Talia Blanco kept the girls in the match.

With good defending by Siena Crossley, Safia Sheikh and newcomer Zaynab Dar the girls eventually broke through a well-drilled Hertford side. There were goals from Leel (2) Murphy, Johnston and James.

The Under-10 Boys drew one and won two of their matches while the Under-12 boys won all of their three games.
