Ashley Young was sold to Aston Villa for a club record transfer fee of £8m, rising to £9.65m depending on contract clauses.
The 21-year-old England Under-21 international had played a key role in the promotion achieved the previous season, but an injury to Marlon King had hampered the side's Premiership chances and seen winger Young forced into a more central attacking role.
Quickly establishing himself at Villa Park, Young would win the PFA Young Player of the Year Award during the 2008/09 season.
