Watford head coach Beppe Sannino insists his players understand it's up to them to lift the fans during matches

Watford's players understand the onus is on them to lift the supporters and not the other way round, says Hornets head coach Beppe Sannino.

The Golden Boys beat Bristol City on Tuesday night in front of 6,173 home fans and the atmosphere at Vicarage Road lifted in the second half when Sannino's side created a number of excellent chances.

"I think we have a lot of things to work on - if I want a team that is like my character then it is necessary to be organised in all parts of the pitch," Sannino said after the match.

"The problem is there is not a lot of time between each game but I can say the players have now understood something important: that it is not the supporters who have to push us but it is us who have to push the supporters.

"Like this evening when we were growing during the game, the supporters were very helpful for us."

The Hornets started slowly against the Robins but seemed to grow in confidence after first Davide Faraoni, and then Lewis McGugan, found the net.

"In my opinion when the team can score the opening goal and you don’t play too many backward passes I think you reach a kind of mentality to be dangerous," said Sannino.

"Against Reading there were too many back passes and I didn’t see enough movement going forwards and we struggled.

"After this game I don’t want to think we have reached our maximum or that we did extraordinary things.

"We have to keep our humility. On Saturday we have another game against Bournemouth which is very important ."

Nice words Beps, agree with it all.

The players need to play their part otherwise what's the point eh.

Remember the lift that we all got when Deeney scored the third against Leicester....

It was really good to see the players fighting for the ball when Bristol tried to block us out. That has not been hapening so much. It showed the players wanted to play football. If we continue ;ike this we should move back u the league. Too often we have been to slow to move to get the ball.

If Beppe wnats to lift the supporters then stop all this back passing and put someone else up front to help Troy. FF is not the answer for scoring goals, looks good at times but misses too many chances and does the Latino stuff of falling over and getting booked for doing so..

I would also add that it seems that the visiting side have more players than we do on the pitch, in particular when we do try ,and not often enough,to get forward.

I think if you read between the lines Bepe is a bit shocked at how quiet and passionless our fans are, bit like what Zola said in a similar non direct way.

Most home fans in the league arnt great but the atmosphere at vicarage road is nothing short of diabolical. If your not prepared to sing then you should not sit in the rookery
