Watford travelled to Highfield Road to face Coventry City in the first division.
The stand-out name on the scoresheet in a 2-1 victory for the Hornets was goalkeeper Steve Sherwood, whose long drop-kick carried on the wind and bounced over both opposing keeper Raddy Avramovic and the challenging Nigel Callaghan.
George Reilly's goal in injury time gave the Hornets all three points.
