Beppe Sannino believes Fitz Hall is “one of the key players” at Watford and has given the defender a chance to earn a contract after recent illness.

Hall has remained with the Hornets following the expiration of a one-month deal he agreed earlier in the campaign.

He had been training away from the squad due to a chest infection but Sannino has been impressed with the 33-year-old.

Watford’s head coach said: “Fitz Hall is a very important player, one of the key players at Watford in terms of personality, experience and presence.

“After I joined the club he was not training because he had a chest infection so I haven’t seen him on the pitch.

“Today (Thursday) he was training so he is getting better. As I have said before, after the Bristol City game Fitz will be one of the players we will assess.”

Hall made one start and one substitute appearance after former Hornets boss Gianfranco Zola decided to re-sign the player following a string of defensive injuries, as the player had been training with the club since the summer.

The centre-back excelled in his 22 outings for Watford last season but after the player initially delayed contract talks, the club’s hierarchy decided to opt for other options in the summer.

When fit a truly quality playe who is clearly recognised as an influence both on and off the pitch. Definitely worth signing to the end of the season. Things are looking good for the second half of the season! Feel a lot more optimistic now.

great news that, just unfortunate he is ill again.
Play him in the centre with Angella and Ekstrand either side, now that
would be a solid defense- sorry Lloyd

Give him a one month rolling contract. Class player when fit but far too fragile to invest in in the long-term.

Great news! Shame he has been blighted by injuries in his career but hopefully once fit again he will do a job for us especially that Tommy Hoban is on his way back to.

I would love to see him sign, he knows this league and add valuable experience and influence to the team. Opponents fear his dominance and presence, plus he's classified as home grown and we could do with re-enforcements there. When fit - he should play, worth a 6 month contract IMO.

Such a shame a 33 y/o delayed his contract and has paid dearly for doing so. That he has kept himself fit is a credit to him and he is as the comments here allude well worth a rolling contract.

Just got in from the restaurant/pub after a good meal. This has rounded the evening off perfectly. Bit by bit, things seem to be falling in to place. Hotel booked for tomorrow so here's to a noisy and successful day out.
2014 is the year of the yellow!

Even if he doesn't play we have sorely missed Eustace in the dressing room, perhaps thats a good role for him.

Some players are just good to have around for their influence on and off the pitch. His attitude has been superb and it makes good sense to keep hold of Fitz

Sign him up. If we're playing 3-5-2 then we need 6 decent centre backs in the squad. Good influence for the younger players and with a game in hand and an FA cup replay and potential run we need strength in depth.
