CHARLTON boss Chris Powell is confident of doing a deal with Hull City to extend Cameron Stewart’s stay at The Valley.

The winger joined the Addicks on loan on deadline day, a deal which expires next month when the window re-opens.

Stewart has scored some spectacular goals during his brief stay in SE7 and Powell is optimistic there will be more to come from the player in a red shirt after holding initial discussions with opposite number Steve Bruce.

“There could be an extension for Cameron Stewart and we have spoken to Hull but it is something we are going to have to deal with around that time,” the Addicks manager said.

“But I have spoken to Steve Bruce seven or 10 days ago, so hopefully we can do something in that area.”

And Powell is confident there will be further additions to his squad in the new year.

“I am going to do my best to do something in the transfer market,” he said.

“Whether that includes spending money or not I feel like the club and the team needs a little bit of freshness and impetus.

“I have got some good players here who will hold their hands up, and I will as well and say we haven’t done well enough, but I know those players are good enough and that is the difference.

“But we need a little lift in key areas and if I have to be creative and try and do it without any money.

"Whether that is moving one or two out, I am going to have to try and do that.”
