Watford beat Hereford United 3-0 in the second round of the FA Cup with two goals from Dixie Hale and one from Keith Eddy.
Missing from the Hornets' line-up for the first time in over three years was full-back Duncan Welbourne, who was just five games short of equalling George Toone's record of 175 consecutive league and cup games.
Welbourne returned for the following Tuesday's visit of Oldham Athletic to maintain his unbroken league run.
