Watford recorded, up to that point, their record league victory.
The victims at Vicarage Road were Newport County, who succumbed 8-2.
Another milestone set was the five goals scored by Eddie Mummery, which remains a league record for the club.
Two goals for Harry Anstiss and one for Jimmy Eggleton completed the scoring in what was an incongruous victory during an unsuccessful season as Watford finished third from bottom of the third division (South).
