Leicester City were the visitors to Vicarage Road in a first division fixture.
The visitors had the Hornets under the cosh in the first half, going a goal up when John O'Neill headed in Gary Lineker's cross and were denied a penalty when Lineker himself appeared to be fouled.
A John Barnes free-kick meant that the Hornets were improbably level at the break, but headers from George Reilly and Steve Terry, and a chip from Worrell Sterling, dismissed the visitors' challenge in the second half.
