The visit of Millwall Athletic saw the debut of Arthur Woodward, who replaced Jimmy Leaver at right-back.

Woodward would go on to serve the club with distinction, making over 400 senior appearances plus another 100 during the Second World War. On this occasion, however, he struggled as his team were destined to do throughout the season.

Leading 2-1 at the break, the home side collapsed in the second half to lose 4-2 with the Watford Observer disdainfully reporing that the half-back line of Fletcher, Strain and Woodward "could not stand the racket" after the interval.
