Giuseppe Sannino's first words to the Watford players? Sorry for not speaking English

This Is Local London: Picture: Action Images Picture: Action Images

Giuseppe Sannino says the first thing he did when addressing Watford’s players was apologise for being unable to speak English.

Sannino spoke to the media as Hornets boss for the first time after the 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

With the Golden Boys’ head of medical, Marco Cesarini, translating, Sannino said: “My first speech to the lads was to apologise to them because I do not speak English. I plan to speak English as soon as possible. That is one of my big regrets.

“But the decision [to join Watford] was [made] very quickly so I didn’t have time to prepare like Carlo Ancelotti or Roberto Mancini; they had time to prepare so I am really sorry for that.”

You can read the rest of Sannino’s first press conference here.

Yeah, one big joke. Did you hear about the Italian coach who couldn't speak English but got a decent squad together, sorted the tactics out and gave us something to cheer about?

There are enough Italian speaking players who can get the manager's message across to the others. What is important is that they all talk football and then transfer that on to the pitch. We also need to stop conceding goals, or giving the ref the chance to give soft penalties against us, and start scoring like we did last season.
The players owe it to us, the fans, themselves, the club and also Gianfranco Zola to start playing to their true ability. We are not out of the promotion race yet, but we need to play well and then stregthen team for the long term to have a proper run at the Premier League and have the chance to stay there.
Merry Christmas everyone, here'shoping the second half of the season sees a change in attitude on the pitch!

Don't get your comment on soft penalties.
The one on Saturday was a joke, Angella simply went across to challenge and had the ball whacked at him from 3 feet.
The only way you can avoid some of the crap decisions made these days is to not bother challenging at all.
On another note , our away form has delivered enough points to have put us in a promotion position. the home form which needs sorting.

It sounds as if you do get my comment. If he had closed down sooner he would not have been hit by the ball. It definitely was not a penalty (even a qualified ref like me can see that!), but he stood off and the ref misinterpreted the situation. There have been too many poor decisions this season, across all the leagues, but with a bit more positivity we should reduce the opportunities for refs to have the opportunity to get it so wrong. Anyway the team needs to buck themselves up and get back to where they shouold be.

Doubts about the new coaching team, of course we all have. Then the Romans conquered us 1600 years back and we got over the language barrier and so did the Romans. Let's all look for a turn around in our fortunes and a decent striker in January to take the weight and responsibilities off of Troy's shoulders.
