Gianfranco Zola finished with the third highest win percentage ever for a Watford manager and the highest since Steve Harrison departed Vicarage Road in 1990.

In Zola’s 66 league matches with the Hornets, he oversaw 29 wins, 15 draws and 22 defeats giving the Italian a win percentage of 43.94 per cent.

Only two bosses in Watford’s history have a better record.

Bill McGarry tops the list after winning 45.61 per cent of his 57 games in charge from 1963 to 1964.

And Harrison, who managed the Golden Boys for 80 league games from 1988, won 45 per cent of his matches.

Zola sits ahead of Watford legend Graham Taylor, who is fifth best with 42.93 per cent.

Taylor’s record however is particularly impressive given it includes two separate spells and 622 league matches as well as one season in the Premier League and seven overall in the top flight.

Zola’s win percentage dropped after the Championship play-off final defeat to Crystal Palace in May.

Last season he won 50 per cent of his league matches in charge but after the extra-time defeat at Wembley, that figure dropped to 30 per cent.

In Zola’s 66 league games in charge, Watford scored 115 goals at an average of 1.74 per game and conceded 86.
