Lloyd James admits the Leyton Orient squad are looking forward to the chance to consolidate their position at the top of League 1 over the busy Christmas period.

The O’s have an important set of festive fixtures starting against Crawley Town this weekend and highlighted by their top-of-the-table clash at Wolves a week on Sunday. But the influential midfielder believes everyone in the squad is eager to impress and strengthen their promotion bid over the next fortnight.

James said: “Christmas is a very busy period for us and we’ve got games coming thick and fast. But the mood we’ve got in the camp and the lads we’ve got in there, we’re really looking forward to it and we cannot wait for the next game.”

James played a crucial role in Orient’s 1-1 draw at Bradford on Saturday after his spectacular strike.

It was only his eighth goal as a professional but three of those have come in the last month for the O’s. The former Southampton youngster admitted his latest effort was up there with his best.

The 25-year-old said: “It would definitely have to be one of my best goals. I pretty much knew it was going in as soon as it left my foot. I don’t score many so I didn’t know what to with my celebration. It’s definitely up there as one of my best strikes.”

Although the East Londoners were disappointed to concede a late equaliser to the Bantams, James still feels it can be considered a decent point.

He said: “You can look at it both ways really. It’s a tough place to come and not many people are going to come here and take three points.

“Obviously we’re a little bit gutted that we didn’t win but you have got to look at it as a point gained. We were a little bit disappointed but that says a lot about the lads and what we’re made of this year.

“A point away at Bradford at the start of the season – we would have taken it all day long.”
