Ainsworth hits out at 'immature' Scowen over red card
'IMMATURE and reckless' was how Gareth Ainsworth described Josh Scowen's sending off against Scunthorpe, as the midfielder picked up two quickfire yellow cards.
The combative youngster is set for a lengthy period of suspension, with his second booking against the Iron being his tenth of the campaign.
That carries its own penalty on top of an automatic ban for picking up a red card, and Ainsworth hopes Scowen learns from his rash judgements.
He was booked twice in the space of five second half minutes and Ainsworth felt that could have killed his side's chances of getting anything out of the game against the high fliers.
Leon Johnson scored a 95th minute equaliser but it wasn't enough to appease Ainsworth's view on the potentially game changing red card.
The Blues boss said: "I'm very disappointed with Josh. I've had a right go at him because I think it's immature, it's reckless. There was a foul on him and I think that's why he's seen a little bit of the red mist, but it's something you can't do when you're on a yellow card.
"I've been there - I remember a couple of years ago against Sheffield Wednesday at home I was on a yellow and I've lunged in. I learnt my lesson late. Hopefully Josh will learn it early in his career and he won't be doing it again, because that nearly cost us. We were on top, we were the better side second half and as soon as Josh went off it gave them a real chance to kill the game."
