Watford played what is to date their last game in European competition, bowing out of the UEFA Cup in Prague.
Sparta were already 3-2 up from the first leg, and proved more able to cope with the frozen conditions, winning 4-0 on the night.
Young right-back Nigel Gibbs was later to comment: "It was sickening how good they looked on that surface."
The game provided a debut for Francis Cassidy, a few minutes as substitute constituting his entire first team career at the club.
