Palace duo claim Gunners display will give new Selhurst boss instant hope
CRYSTAL Palace stars Julian Speroni and Yannick Bolasie insisted Saturday’s performance against Arsenal showed the club is an attractive proposition for potential new managers.
The Selhurst Park club are currently without a boss after the shock resignation of manager Ian Holloway last week following Monday’s humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Fulham.
Speroni, now in his ninth season at the club, admitted his shock at Holloway’s decision but insists they showed in the 2-0 defeat to the Gunners there is a good foundation for the new man to build upon.
The Eagles keeper explained: “Everybody was sad to see him leave.
“He’s been here almost a year and we had a great time and great success with promotion.
“We saw the manager on Thursday morning and he was very good.
“He was encouraging us and I think the players took what he said on board.”
Speroni added: “We as players talked to each other because we believe that we have enough talent to do well in this division.
“So we need to get together and see who the new manager is and what new ideas he might have and then move forward as a unit “I think we showed there is definitely something to work with for whoever takes over.”
Flying winger Bolasie agreed with the Argentine and thanked the fans for sticking with the players in what has been a tough week for the club.
Bolasie said: “You could see that the lads went out there today and made a statement to the fans that we do care.
“The fans are always there for us and are used to being on a bit of a rollercoaster ride and they are our twelfth man so I am glad they are behind us.
“We’ve got 29 games left and it was definitely a good advert today to the new manager, whoever that is.”
