Watford midfielder Christian Battocchio scores decisive goal in Italy Under-21s' 1-0 win over Belgium
Watford midfielder Christian Battocchio's single goal proved the difference as Italy Under-21s beat Belgium 1-0 in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier last night.
The decisive goal came in the fourth minute as Federico Viviani's corner found Davide Zappacosta on the edge of the area and when the full-back volleyed towards goal, Battocchio was on hand to head in from close range.
It was the 21-year-old's second goal in three qualifying matches for the young Italians, having previously scored against Belgium in the reverse fixture last month.
Battocchio, who plays in a more attacking role for his country than he does for the Hornets, was replaced with nine minutes to go as the Italians held on for an important win in Group 9.
Italy trail Belgium by six points in the table but have played only three matches, two less than Belgium.
