AUDIO: Blackburn Rovers boss says organisation and discipline were the key to beating Watford
3:11pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Latest Sport
Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer believes defensive organisation and discipline were key to his side securing victory against Watford.
Rovers edged last night's match thanks to Jordan Rhodes second-half header from a long throw-in.
Bowyer said: "It was an outstanding effort. We backed up the result on Saturday (3-1 win at Bournemouth) with an excellent win tonight against a top, top team. You saw first half how they got into the groove and played their passing game. But we defended very well, we were organised and disciplined in it and we grew into the game.
"Second half we took confidence from keeping a clean sheet in the first half and the lads said at half time that they felt they could play better and they went out and showed that."
When asked if his squad worked on anything in particular before last night's match to nullify Watford's threat, Bowyer replied: "We worked on being organised and very disciplined and being very competitive. We asked the players to give absolutely everything and you can see that they did that.
"What is important now is we need to regroup, not let them get carried away and get focussed again for Wigan. A week is a long time in the Championship."
