Gianfranco Zola believes Watford's new East Stand could help when trying to attract players to the club
A delighted Gianfranco Zola has welcomed confirmation the new East Stand will be built this season and believes it will help when trying to attract players to the club.
Important contracts relating to the redevelopment of the stand were signed at the weekend and it has been confirmed the structure will be built and opened this season.
The East Stand was closed to supporters in 2008 due to safety concerns and has become an embarrassment to the Championship club.
Zola said: "I am delighted about the news. It is a signal that the club is moving in the right direction, not only on the pitch but also off it. I am really pleased about it.
"We want to become an important club in this country and you can support what you do on the pitch by the things you do off the pitch like this. I am pleased it is happening and hopefully it happens sooner rather than later."
He added: "Everything helps [when attracting players]. If you want to bring in an important player then having a good stadium and good training facilities makes a big difference."
